Spam No More
Apr 7th
Seems like only yesterday I was proudly posting that Folaji.com had received its first spam comment. Since then, however, spam on the site has increased to the point where I’ve been filtering through 30 to 40 spam comments per day to ensure any proper comments aren’t accidently deleted.
Because of this ridiculous amount of spam, I’ve changed the site’s settings so that only registered and logged in users may post comments, which has worked well so far (0 spam today!). As a result, anybody who wishes to participate in our ongoing conversations about DnD and Warcraft will be forced to register with the site. I didn’t want to do this, but the barrage of spam forced my hand. The good thing is registration is free and any information you provide will not be sold/shared with anyone.
Also, anybody thinking of creating an account should remember this warning: any new accounts created for the purpose of generating spam on Folaji.com will be deleted.
That is all.
Holy Spam Batman
Nov 18th
This morning I woke up to find my inbox full of emails asking me to moderate comments. Considering the current visitor rate on the site, I wasn’t surprised to find that all of these coments were spam.
To be proactive, I’ve activated the Akismet Plugin. This plugin will filter comments as they come in and only post comments which it knows aren’t spam. Now, your comments might be picked up as spam at first, so I’ll be reviewing comments marked as spam on a daily basis.
Akismet is supposedly a smart program that learns from its mistakes so, as time goes on, it should be making less mistakes, all the while making my life a lot easier.
Folaji.com Milestone – First Spam Comment!
Oct 14th
It may not seem like much, but I’ve just had to moderate Folaji.com’s first spam comment ever!
For someone (like me) who measures the importance of a website by how many spammers try to abuse it, this is truly a great day. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to read up on how to install the Askimet Plugin.
